Osram VII

My dad and I hanging out.

Sept 27 1998 18.5 hour: More weldout of stb hull interior. Dad up to help hold skin against stringers to tack out stringers.

Long shot of the boat in a sea of grass.

The Woolybears say its going to be a very cold winter, with their very short brown sections.

Sept 30 1998 4.5 hour: Weldout most of interior sides of port hull chin and knuckle.

Oct 1 1998 2.5 hour: More interior side work.

The surveyor measuring up.

Oct 2 1998 2 hour: More interior side work.

Oct 3 1998 8 hour: Still more interior side work and weldout deck seam stitching on stb side.

Oct 4 1998 3 hour: misc.

Oct 10 1998 3 hour: Weldout mid deck seam fully and prep toerail for mid deck seam.

Oct 11 1998 7 hour: Weldout cabin side seams. Weld coaming for hatch on mid deck. Cut and fit and weldout toerail at front of mid beam. There is a fair bit of distortion in the deck in this area probably to to shrinkage of caused by the cabin. Will put in some extra stiffeners in the area and let epoxy filler hide the rest of the sins as this area will be painted with non-skid. Thicker plate next time!

One of the mid deck hatch coamings.

Oct 13 1998 1 hour: Level t0 +- 1/8" on all four corners with the wife's help.

Oct 14 1998 3 hour: Weld exterior of cockpit bulkhead to water tight and weldout 20' of inner knuckle. after chip back. This has melted out some of the interior weld in the area indicating excellent penetration but a little too much heat.

Oct 15 1998 4 hour: Worked with wife to put two 1/2 pipes bridge deck stringers in place. This turned out to be a lot easier than I expected ( I had the pipes prepped for a month but kept putting it off ).

Oct 17 1998 5 hour: Fab and stitch in a couple of cabin top frames. Finish tacks on under deck beams. Cut 10' chunk off of 9" pipe for more bridge deck beams.

Oct 18 1998 8 hour: Put in two more cabin top frames. Weldout cabing top seams and most of cabin edge except sides which will be done after more framing is in. Weldout about 70 feet of knuckle seams, spent half the day on my knees... felt like Monica. Tacked up chunks for cockpit sole and start layout.

Oct 19 1998 2 hour: Cut out cockpit and put on bracing and get half way in place.

Oct 21 1998 12 hour: With wifes's help got the cockpit sole in place. Its a cut big and trim job with both sides needing fitup while skyhooked 7' in the air. Wont design something like that again! Front joint is a lap and sides are edge on to hull plate sides.

The cockpit sole going in.

Oct 23 1998 8 hour: Cut and tacked 9 stringers under cockpit. I decreased stringer spacing from 10 3/4" in original design to 9" to better control distortion. Fully welded out lab seam at front of cockpit. Rough trimed front of cockpit lockers to fit bulkhead at front. Lofted and cut out aft cockpit bulkhead.. its is curved three ways but went well.

Oct 24 1998 5 hour: Weldout cockpit forward bulkhead stringers near cockpit lockers. Trimmed front of lockers to fit bulkhead. Trim and fit aft cockpit bulkhead and put in some tiny tacks. Looks nice.

A shot from the roof again.
