Osram VII

June 10 1998 2 hour: Start templating frame 2 stb hull.

June 14 1998 2 hour: Move plate for frame 2 to work area. Wind storm has broken tacks on part of support for tarps. Remove forward tbar and now tarp lays on deck beams.

June 15 1998 4 hour: Continue templating frame 2 stb hull and tie tighten up parts of tarp on port hull.

June 16 1998 6 hour: Add tab to 6' plate for bottom of frame 2 and cut out frame to match template. Prep to bend up 1/4"x2" bar for water tight hatch in frame 2.

Yet another bending jig.

June 17 1998 2 hour: Test fab of seagull strikers. Cut from 9" 6061T6 tube and heated break line to 650 degrees. Took to metal shop and had broken. Still some cracking.

June 19 1998 7 hour: Cut groove in break area on seagull strikers and finish bend with mallet and clamps. Welded out both sides of seagull strikers ( weld schedule to follow ). They turned out very nice and the davits will be made the same way. Also worked up schedule for 3/16 to 5/32 bottom and side joint. Finish a foot or so around frame 2 on both hulls.

June 20 1998 9 hour: Cut and fit bow tube. This was a design change from the original 6" OD 1/8" wall tube that was purchased for it. I have substituted a piece of the leftover 9" OD 3/16" wall purchased for the mast. This is way over spec for sailing loads but will provide a little reserve if I run something up between the hulls. It also simplifies the attachment of the seagull striker and bridle chainplates and provides a better support for the forward mooring posts.

631 hours to date.

June 21 1998 8.5 hour: Chip back and weldout most of port bow cone. Build bending jig for 1 /14" radius of 1/4" x 2" 6061T6 bar. Have to heat to 650 degrees at boint of bend then quench. This takes of the temper at the corner. Work on bow treatment at deckline on stb hull.

June 22 1998 7.5 hour: Bend up hatch frames for both frame 2. Put hatch frame into frame 2 stb hull and finish chipback and weldout of bow cones.

June 25 1998 9 hour: Fitup and tack in stb frame 1 and frame 2. Trim deckbeams of those frames to fit. Bend up hatch frames for both frame 2.

June 26 1998 2 hour: Fit bowe eye on stb and cut and drill bow eye.

June 27 1998 9 hour: Level hulls again. Weld stb hull to bow tube. Weld bow eye and finish bow detailing. Weld deck beams of stb hull to sheer tube. Cut 4 /12" hole in interior of bow tube for mooring post. Clean out metal chips in stb hull. Pull two plates to work area for foredecks. First plates pulled this year as work so far for frames 0 and 2 used off cuts.

667 hours to date.

June 28 1998 13 hour: Loft foredeck and cut both foredecks. Install stb deck and weld out to watertight.

June 29 1998 1.5 hour: Bend up sister deck beams for around bowtube.

June 30 1998 3.0 hour: Fit and weld in stb hull sister deck beams. Make up same for port hull.

July 2 1998 11 hour: Fit up trim bits on port bow. Level in all directions. Stb hull was about 1 " forward of port. Weld in bow tube to port hull 22v .030 7.5 feed with arc directed at 3/16" of tube.

July 5 1998 5 hour: Templat and weld up and cutout port frame 2.
