Osram VII

July 22 1998 10.5 hour: Build and and put in place port frame 5. Includes part of bridge cabin and takes main shroud chainplate.

Frame 5 in progress.

July 25 1998 9 hour: Put in aft deck stringers in port hull and trim frames to final surface. The 't' part of the stringer is cut to allow the frames to float and will be reconected when welded to the frames. PUll two more plates ( only three left )

Pulling two plates for side deck. When pulling just one I wet the grass and just hump it over.

Views of deck beams.

July 26 1998 11.5 hour: Cut side decks. Put port panel on deck using a incline plane of tbar. Trim and fit and tack in deck plate. Weld deck to foredeck from mid crown to sheer and weldout topside area of side deck to water tight. First set of stitches in stringer near sheer.

Putting a sidedeck in place.

July 29 1998 1 hour: Template last frame.

July 30 1998 1 hour: Stich first 3 deckbeams in foredeck.

August 1 1998 11 hour: Cut and tack in std frame 5 ( last one ) and weldout stb foredeck to frame 3

August 2 1998 9.5 hour: Trim frames for deck on stb side and cut and fit stringers. Trim stb side deck.

Side decks are fully welded at shear but still just float on tbar.

August 3 1998 10 hour: Weld up main beam/forwardbridge/midbridge joint. All but underside overhead. Put in last three stringers in forward bridge and stitch in. Mostly used .030 20v 8.0 feed for beam joint with some .030 18v 6.5 on the cabin side for smaller bead to minimise distortion. When stitching in stringers on main bridge forward in the uphill position had several cold cracks at start of bead. Turned out to require more angle at start of bead then about 15 degrees for the run. As this was upside down and uphill I was using a different technique without being aware of it. ( I am now after having to use the die grinder on 8 welds. )

Its a nice bit of welding with minimal distortion, both sides for 15 feet.

All the tbar on the forward part of the bridge deck. This is framed along the beam and the deck frames will be fore and aft.

August 4 1998 2 hour: Layout and prep cockpit lockers and forward part of main beam for breakwork.

August 5 1998 4.5 hour: Take stuf in for press work. The guys at Lifetimer Boats in Duncan know their stuf. Weld butt joint in forward part of main beam and loft and fit. This was a fairly light piece around 60 lbs but it was a overhead and off to the side bunch of lifts and next day I realized I pranged my shoulder arm and neck.

August 7 1998 2 hour: Try to do a bit, got the forward beam part prepped and tacked in.

August 8 1998 3 hour: Finished weldout on the forward part of the beam. The lower edge is a lap of 1/2" and welded out nice with .030 20v 8.0 on both sides ( gotta keep moving on the overhead ).

August 9 1998 7 hour: Weldout stb side deck at sheer and flush part to foredeck. Trim forward part of main beam and cut and weld in 4 deck beams.

August 10 1998 1.5 hour: Cut rest of mid deck beams and weld in 4 more. Last six need to be fitted around shroud bulkhead or as butt on deck plate.

August 11 1998 1.5 hour: Start template of mast step bulkhead.

August 12 1998 1.5 hour: Cut tube from mast stock for mast step support. Polish up template accuracy.

Tapered split 9" tube for mast support.

August 15 1998 9 hour: Cut and weld up mast support bulkhead. Weld in mast step support (stills needs panel stiffeners ) Template and loft shroud support bulkheads.

Support in place as is bulkhead.

August 16 1998 7 hour: Cut and weld in both shroud bulkheads.

August 17 1998 1.5 hour: Bend frames for mid beam deck hatches. A 'in building design modification' was to reduce the hatch from 30" to 27". Pulled another plate.

August 18 1998 1 hour: Cut out and layout break work on forward cockpit beam, sorta of a S bend.

August 20 1998 1 hour: Weld joint tabs in formed cockbit beam and prep and fit to hulls.

August 22 1998 11 hour: Weld in sides of forward cockpit beam. Weld in rest of mid deck beams. Cut hatch holes in mid deck plate. Weld up mid deck hatch frames and companion way frame. Prep and trim mid deck plate. Pull 1 more plate for aft bridge, cockpit back and cabintop centre.

Mid deck beam framing ( all straight TBar ) and shroud bulkheads and mast bulkhead.

Forward part of main beam and mid deck with hatch cutouts visible.

The forward cockpit beam. The interior bridge deck rests on the bottom and the cockpit sole on the top. As well the forward cockpit bulkheads angles up forward from the top.
