Sailing Directions:
Kiritimati Atoll (Christmas Island) lies about 150 miles SE of Tabuaeran. The atoll is about 27 miles long SE to NW and is 16 miles wide in the N part. A neck extending from near the centre of the atoll toward the SE is about 4 miles wide; this part is low-lying scrubland, with trees adjacent to the coast. The island is about 40 ft. high, in the NW part, where there are growths of scrubby trees and coconut palms, visible for a distance of 12 miles. Kiritmati Atoll has been declared a nature reserve permission to land on the small islands S of London must be obtained from the warden.
